The Importance of Early Childhood Education

In the first few years of life, more than one million neural connections are formed each second – a pace never repeated again.

Early childhood offers a critical window of opportunity to shape the trajectory of a child’s holistic development and build a foundation for their future.

Children in early childhood education programs are:

  • Less likely to repeat a grade.
  • Less likely to be identified as having special needs.
  • More prepared academically for later grades.
  • More likely to graduate from high school.
  • Higher earners in the workforce.

What are the main areas of development?

  • Gross motor skills, for example crawling, jumping or running.
  • Fine motor skills, such as writing and drawing.
  • Speech and language.
  • Cognitive and intellectual, such as counting or identifying shapes.
  • Social and emotional skills, such as playing with other children.
